Modelling voice call interarrival and holding time distributions in mobile networks

چکیده
Due to the importance that mobile telecommunication systems are assuming in voice networks, this paper addresses the problem of modelling the traffic that characterizes cellular systems. Starting from experimental data provided by a mobile telecom operator, the two aspects of interarrival times and holding times of voice calls are considered. For each of them a study is carried out to find the best mathematical modelling that can represent the experimental data. This study confirms that the exponential assumption for the distribution of interarrival and holding time is far from reality.

Modeling and Characterization of Traffic in Public Safety Wireless Networks
In this paper, we present statistical analysis of traffic in a deployed circuit-switched, trunked cellular wireless network used by public safety agencies. Prior analysis considered traffic from three busy hours during two days in 2001. Traffic data in this study span various time periods in 2001, 2002, and 2003. We examine the statistical distribution and autocorrelation function of call inter...

-– Third generation mobile communication networks are designed to provide a variety of high data rate services with higher Quality of Service (QoS) than second-generation systems. Handover becomes one of the major problems in such a mobile environment as it is of utmost importance to provide a higher guarantee that the users are able to continue their service during the entire length of the tra...
متن کاملAnalysis of Public Safety Traffic: JSAC Special Issue on Quality of Service Delivery in Variable Topology Networks
Mobile radio systems for public safety and agencies engaged in emergency response and disaster recovery operations must support multicast voice traffic. In this paper, we analyze the distribution of call inter-arrival and call holding times for multicast voice (talk group) traffic on a transmission trunked mobile radio system. In such systems, the channel is held only while a user is making a c...
متن کاملA Homogeneous PCS network with Markov Call Arrival Process and Phase Type Cell Residence Time
In this paper, the arrival of calls (i.e., new and handoff calls) in a personal communications services (PCS) network is modeled by a Markov arrival process (MAP) in which we allow correlation of the interarrival times among new calls, among handoff calls, as well as between these two kinds of calls. The PCS network consists of homogeneous cells and each cell consists of a finite number of chan...
متن کاملVoice Holding Time Distribution in Trunked Pamr Systems
In this paper a statistical model of the call holding time in Public Access Mobile Radio) PAMR systems is presented. For this purpose a scanning receiver has been used to monitor the call duration, and the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test has been applied to measure the goodness of fit of the candidate distributions. The exponential distribution often used to model trunked systems with the M/M/C queue i...
